For litigation, investigations, and crisis counsel

A senior team
for counsel.

Washington and New York firms retain Rook when the record has to be built before a filing, a deal, a hearing, or a crisis hardens.

Practices that use the work

The audience is counsel, not a consumer directory. Typical readers are litigation and investigations partners, white-collar teams, family-office counsel, and crisis lawyers in the District and in New York. They are retaining a licensed private detective agency for a record their own lawyers will use.

  • Litigation-support research and public-record development
  • Counterparty, investor, and appointee-grade due diligence
  • Insider, fraud, and coordinated-abuse investigations
  • Protective assessments for a principal the firm represents
  • Online signature reduction before travel or a public role
  • A fractional OSINT retainer when the question does not end with one memo

Privilege stays with the firm

Whether a communication is privileged, or protected work product, is a legal question for the retaining firm. Rook does not give that opinion and does not give legal advice. What the practice can do is sign an NDA before the first call, take direction from counsel, and handle information on a need-to-know basis. Secure channels are available on request.

License and geography

Home is Washington, DC. The primary service area is the DMV: the District, Maryland, and Virginia. New York City firms are a core outreach market, not a second office and not a second license. Nationwide and international matters are taken when the scope is clean. The only investigative license advertised is DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection private detective agency license PAI40000046, held by Redwing Technologies LLC.

What firms should not expect

  • Legal advice, coverage opinions, or a view on privilege
  • A published client list, or confirmation of a client over this website
  • Unlawful collection, unauthorized access, or a how-to for either
  • Armed protection or a security-guard detail
  • A rate card. Pricing follows the scoping call, as a project or a retainer

The founder, Colin Aamot, has done due diligence for the White House and appointee processes and has worked in two branches of the U.S. government. Firms that want the source list and the training record should read that section, not a chat window.

The first thirty minutes

Use the contact form. Name the firm, the type of work, and the timing. Leave the facts general. Check the NDA box if the call should not happen in the clear. Rook replies within one business day to schedule the 30-minute scoping conversation, then sends a proposal: fractional retainer or fixed-scope project.

Know the board before you move.

Confidential 30-minute scoping call. An NDA is available before it. We reply within one business day.

FAQ

Questions from law firms.

Scope, privilege, geography, and the first call.

Do you work with law firms in Washington, DC and New York?

Yes. Rook supports litigation, investigations, family-office, white-collar, and crisis practices in the District and in New York City, and firms elsewhere. The team is based in Washington, DC.

Are you a licensed private investigator?

Rook Intelligence is a private detective agency licensed by the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection, license PAI40000046, operated by Redwing Technologies LLC. It does not advertise investigative licenses it does not hold.

Will the work be privileged?

That is a question for the retaining firm. Rook does not give legal advice about privilege or work product. An NDA is available before the scoping call, and information is handled on a need-to-know basis.

What should we put in the contact form?

Your name, work email, firm, the type of engagement, and a short description with no sensitive details. Say if you need an NDA first. Rook replies within one business day.
